Being a Christian

What does it mean to be a Christian? Simple, knowing with all of your heart that Jesus Christ was a sacrifice for our sins and we are redeemed by his love. That's it! I remember when I was little and I didn't have a strong relationship with God, I just didn't understand the beauty and extent of what God's love can do for us. It is more of a freedom... from guilt, depression, hate, the dark feelings that can take over you without you realizing they have a hold over you. Am I the perfect Christian... absolutely not!! Will I ever be.. No! That's what is so amazing about God's love. He forgives when we continue to sin, he loves when we are unlovable, and he is faithful! I struggle every single day with the sins of this world, and my sins are no better than any other. I have hurt people with my words, I have been selfish, I have been envious, and all around negative. I have to ask for God to guide me daily in the trials and tribulations of life. What I have found though, is that with God all things are possible and I am no longer scared to try things I am being called upon to do. Have you acknowledged God as your savior? If you haven't, it's never to late!!! God is waiting for you!

Counting and Sorting

I found these little fall manipulatives in the dollar section of Target. They are considered table décor, but they make great math manipulatives.

This was a fun activity. My munchkins loved separating by object and color. Then they got creative, set up a pumpkin patch and used some animal sorters to play in the pumpkin patch.

Another activity they had fun with was a Thanksgiving Sensory Box. I had no idea that beans and cooking utensils could be so fun. I rummaged through my drawers and found some spoons, tongs, measuring cups, and bowls. I used a Rubbermaid container and just dumped in an assortment of colored dry beans, fall leaves, acorns, scarecrows, an ear of corn, and more of the table décor objects from the previous activity. The kids made pumpkin stew, counted, measured, played Thanksgiving, and all around had a great time discovering.

Fun with Words

What is the purpose of a weekly spelling test if the child is only memorizing the material and not understanding the patterns of words? One of the reasons I decided to pull my son out of PS and HS was due to the fact that he struggled in spelling and writing. My son is super inquisitive, loves to read, but can not spell! I slowly was seeing "fall through the cracks" as they like to say in PS. My sweet boy was lacking fundaments phonics rules! He doesn't understand word patterns. What is a mom to do? Make learning fun!!! We have been practicing beginning blends(two consonants that blend together to make one sound). The first day we talked about the pattern and came up with words together that fit the pattern. Throughout the week, he has several opportunities to manipulate the word patterns through word work activities. Check out some Word Work ideas
